and you thought it was over….

Surprise…Family Week continues!

This time though, it is those with whom I share the most DNA (my parents and their grandchildren)….let’s call them “the Immediates”….kind of like The Incredibles but not quite the same. For one thing they aren’t animated (well, they are actually quite animated but not in the cartoon movie character way.) Anyway, here are a few of my favorites….

Photo tip of the day: when there is fashion dissension in the ranks, remember the awesomeness that is black and white. (Not that I’m saying anything and even if I were, look at all those smiling faces…you can’t even tell which ones it might have been!)

We Are Family { Seattle Family Photographer }

Family week continues with my aunt and uncle, their 3 girls and their families….that’s a lot of people! Therefore, you are only going to get to see a sprinkling of my favorite images from this session since there are about a million in total.

The fearless leaders….my sweet auntie and uncle.

The boy cousins.

(This one makes me laugh because I think about if we (my cousin generation) had done this there would have been 5 girls in one photo and one sad boy in the other….what a trooper our boy cousin has been tolerating all of us girls over the years…at least these guys have each other.)

Conveniently each sister has produced one girl and one boy so there is not a sibling combination in either of those cousin photos. How nice and symmetrical of them.

Yes your collage trick worked almost as much magic as you did with your camera. What great photos of my big sissie and her family and their families. The photos are all fabulous, the kids are adorable (and smiling) and the adults look relaxed and happy. What a feat!

Family Week { Seattle Child & Family Photographer }

You know how the Discovery Channel has Shark Week? Well it is Family Week here on the blog this week. (I have 5 cousins on my mom’s side and you will get to see 4 of them this week…)

Every time I photograph these guys I am reminded of all those science classes about genetics. Dominant. Recessive. Genotype. Punnett Square. Yikes. If you know what my kiddos look like, the middle on in particular, and her hair, to be specific, you’ll know why.

My Friend { Seattle Family Photographer }

You know how everyone knows where they met each of their friends? Well, how I met this friend is one of my favorite, out-of-my-comfort-zone get-a-new-friend stories. It all started because she was in my sister’s childbirth class about 6 years ago. Well my sister decided this woman was pretty cool and may have mentioned it to me once or twice (there may even have been some mention of blog-stalking). Turns out I had decided to throw my sister a surprise birthday party not long after and randomly decided that I would look this woman up and invite her, sight unseen, to our little dinner party. If you know me, you know that calling someone I have never met to invite them to a party is so far out of my comfort zone it is ridiculous. Well it turned out awesome for everyone (if I do say so myself). Over the years we have shared our love of (dare I say cheesy) musical movies (at home and on the big screen), yummy food, our cute kids, good music, and photography. Let me just point out that when you are a photographer it is always a good idea to have friends who are photographers too…especially since it’s super hard to take your own picture (thank goodness that is a two way street!)! It is always nervous-making for me when I photograph other photographers…eek…but there are two things I can always count on: 1) they will show up in perfectly coordinated outfits and 2) they will appreciate the images where they are actually in the same shot as the rest of their family! Here are just a few of my favorites for now….

the biggest red firecracker in the world

(Thinking about fireworks this morning made me think of one of my favorite books ever….the Sign On Rosie’s Door by Maurice Sendak….I especially love the audio version I had on TAPE, like a hundred years ago.)

Our fourth of July festivities:

“Let me explain. No, there is too much…let me sum up.” (Go ahead….name that movie.)

There was lots of beach time followed by the most amazing, over-the-top, crab and salmon feast (thanks Auntie!) followed by this fantastic cake (thanks to our mini cake boss). This is my kind of camping!

And to finish it all of, sparklers and what was basically our own private fireworks show put on by the neighbors….excellent!
