The Great Hall { Harry Potter party }

So of course there has to be eating at a party, right?  (I can do that.)   And at Hogwarts they eat in the Great Hall, right?   (I can try to do that.)  At Hogwarts the house elves do all the cooking and cleaning.  (Oh how I wish I had a house elf.)  But I did manage to get a little help from a different someone special.  (It will help here if you have read the first book and seen the first movie.)

Harry Potter party the Great Hall

Here’s the attempt at creating a Great Hall kind of feeling.  I think it is so pretty, I’m leaving it up until after the holidays.  HUGE thank you to our friend, Colin Creevey, for that photo…little bit tricky but it turned out so beautiful…really, I’m so grateful for all the photos!!

I’m even obsessive enough to re-label the drinks.  (Labels found here.)  OK, so I completely love all this stuff.  We also had pumpkin juice for the non-fizzy drinkers.  (Sadly out of character, we ate pizza….but it’s what I knew most everyone would eat.)

So that morning I had to tell the birthday girl that I had just completely run out of time to bake her a cake.  (She’s so sweet…she got all teary eyed and I told me that was totally ok because I had been working so hard on the party and it didn’t really matter.)  BUT in the middle of dinner the doorbell rang.  (hee hee, I’m cackling already…this was the only surprise of the whole party for her…she had been involved in everything else.)  There was a mysterious box on the front porch.  They all ran outside but couldn’t see anyone.  How mysterious!  Luckily there was a note….

If you’ve read book 1, some of that will be familiar.  (Awesome, authentic Hagrid-style handwriting thanks to my left hand…and boy was that harder than I thought it would be.)

Cake styled after the one in the movie…misspellings and all.

Birthday was pretty surprised and questioned me all the following day, trying to figure out the who and the how of the mystery.

Stay tuned for the very last party post on Monday…our trip to Honeydukes!
