After dreaming about this lens (the Canon 70-200) for quite awhile and suffering some serious lens envy when my friend, Michelle, got one for herself, I was finally persuaded to go ahead and get it. (Mind you, the one doing most of the persuading was my spouse and he does not suffer from sticker shock the way I do…plus he knows he’s going get some cool kitesurfing shots out of the deal.) As much as I generally want to be close enough to my subjects to interact with them, there are definitely times when I can’t get myself close enough for the shot I want…for example: the soccer field, the swimming pool, kitesurfing, etc…but there are also times when I kind of just want to let families interact with each other and be as unobtrusive as possible. Here’s hoping this baby lives up to my expectations! Took her out for a little test run with my own kiddos as soon as it came out of the box…..
A little dramatic window sidelight before I could convince them to go outside….
Took some serious adjusting to be able to shoot without falling down…made me kind of dizzy at first. So disorienting to look through the viewfinder at a kid sitting on a bench 20 feet away and have her be right in my face. Felt like I should be able to reach out and touch her…wacky.
My other lens wouldn’t have let me get this close up without moving my body and then I wouldn’t have been able to be at her same height. So much fun!
Too much fun to try it on only one kid….
Have big plans for this lens at my family session tomorrow…hooray!
Wow! Those shots on the play structure are so cool. It took me a few minutes to figure out what they were looking through. Congratulations on the new lens.
