In case you checked out our awesome extended family photos a while back or you have been reading this blog long, you may have picked up that around here, we LOVE to read. So much so that we have started writing books for people for gift giving occasions. We are particularly fond of the “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” series of books…especially for their circular storytelling and easy to imitate format. Our most recent edition was inspired by the king of all things bookish, my dad, and this is what he got for his big birthday this year….

If you give a Grandpa a library card, he’ll ask you to take him to the library.

When you get to the library, he’ll want to check out a stack of books.

Once he has checked out all his books, he’ll want to go home to his comfy chair to read them.

When he’s settled in his chair with his stack of books, he’ll want a hot cup of tea to go with them.

After a sip or two of his tea, he’ll wish he had a cookie to dunk in it.

So you’ll get him a cookie and a warm, cozy blanket and make sure the light is good and he’ll get started reading.

Pretty soon he will finish reading all his books and he’ll want to return them to the library.

And chances are, when you get to the library to return them, he’ll want to check out another big stack of books.
This is such a fun (and funny) project to do with the kids and the whole camera phone thing makes it super easy to add photos. We’ve also authored “If You Give a Grandpa a Tennis Racket”, and I believe “If you Give a Grandma a Goat” (though I can’t find it right now…boo hoo). Would love to see/hear about your adventures in circular story writing as we’ve got another birthday coming up and we’ll need some inspiration….feel free to link to yours in the comments below!

I have a paper copy of If You Give a Grandma a Goat and I love it. These books make wonderful gifts.
