Composed

My big kid is pretty amazing.  (Actually, I feel that way about all my kids, and pretty much about all kids in general.  They are all pretty darn amazing.)  Anyway, this week I am the extra proud mama.  Way back in October he submitted one of his piano compositions to the PTA Reflections program at his school.  (It’s a nationwide program that encourages kids to explore their artistic side.)  He has now moved on from school to district to state.  So proud of that kid!

This year the them was “Diversity is…” and he struggled with it quite a bit.  Almost didn’t enter.  But he finally came up with a solution.  His piece, trickily entitled “Waltz”, is a waltz with a bit of blues right in the middle.  There’s some diversity for you.  I love this piece and since then he’s written about 20 more songs…lots of Latin jazz and a couple of arabesques that make me all teary.  I promise not to put them all on the blog though.  Just picked a few random photos of him to put with the music today….all the way from his little, fuzzy-headed baby self, through his cool, 11 year old musician self, to current day, giant, awesome self.

(So proud of me too…I finally figured out how to put music with a slideshow!  When you click below his piece will play (fingers crossed)…just an fyi in case you are sitting at your desk at work.  Also know that I recorded him playing this on my ipad and I am not a professional recorder by any stretch of the imagination so cut me a little slack in the quality control department.)

WARNING:  there is music with the slideshow today.  (Edited to add:  somehow the music has disappeared…I am trying to figure it out now….)

WOW! Thanks for the recording. I love having it here so I can listen even when I am not near Henry and a piano. Way to go, Henry!
