Bliss

My husband grew up in a boating kind of family and one of my favorite parts of vacationing with him and his family is being able to let our kids try all kinds of new to them (and me) stuff.    Of the three of them, we have one who is just like his dad and LOVES being in and on the water.  The salt water doesn’t really bother him, the eel grass is a non-issue, and he doesn’t mind having fish guts all over his hands.  We also have one who is just like me and takes a long while to warm up to new things and is not so sure about (read: adamantly against)  swimming any place where there is the possibility of having a creature brush up against you (especially after we saw the Moray Eel at the aquarium).  We also have our middle of the road kid.  She knows what she wants to try and what doesn’t sound so great to her.  Anyway, all that to say that my fabulous parent-in-laws (the founders of the previously mentioned boating family) have an amazing new boat and were generous enough to take us out a bunch of times.  Even more generous than that?  They took out our 2 big boys a ton so they could play with their new kite while the girls and I went to the pool.  Hooray!

Here are just a few snaps from one of the blissful days on the boat.  (Side note:  focus?  on a rocking boat? even when it is anchored?  nearly impossible.)

Her (and my) kind of heaven!  Hanging out on the front of the boat.  (See how much of a non-boat person I am?  There is a real, boating person, name for the front…bow, maybe?)

She has the best “beach hair”.  Did you know that they sell hair product so you can have “beach hair” on a normal, everyday kind of day?  I’m thinking that might be good for my soul right around February.

Can you tell that the girls and I hung out on the boat most of the time? Pretty perfect, if you ask me.

When you are out here, you really do feel like you are at the end of the earth.  Absolutely spectacular.

It was a little breezy, making laying one’s towel out a slight challenge.  She was giggling, out of control, because her towel kept trying to escape.  This shot was a total piece of luck as in all the shots before and after the towel is completely flapping around, blocking her face.  But we’ll take breezy because it keeps us cool and it means that the boys are happy….

They have decided to learn to kiteboard together and this was the ultimate training kite vacation.

Dad-dude watches his not-so-mini-me get body dragged across the water.  These two are pretty funny together…sometimes it is kind of  hard to tell which one is the 12 year old boy.

Tomorrow….the fourth of July.
